After an extensive nationwide search and competitive selection process, the Point of the Mountain State Land Authority has announced Designing Local as the lead consultant to develop the Public Art Master Plan for The Point. Designing Local’s professional team will leverage their broad national experience, alongside locally owned Union Creative, to create a world-class public arts program that reflects Utah values and history.

This team is tasked with integrating public feedback into a master public arts plan that creates a vibrant community experience throughout the site. They will also create policies and procedures for the curation, placement, and installation of public art at The Point guided by the feedback and requests of Utahns. The Land Authority conducted a statewide public survey to gather Utahns’ input regarding the type, scope, scale, location, and thematic elements of the iconic feature(s). Nearly 4,000 Utahns responded to the survey, with an overwhelming majority indicating a clear preference for a large architectural structure in a central gathering area of The Point.

The Land Authority recognizes the importance of incorporating one or more distinctive and globally defining iconic feature(s) at The Point. The iconic feature(s) will be a prominent and visible aspect of Utah’s Innovation Community, attracting both local residents and visitors from around the world. The details of the iconic feature(s) will be guided by the The Point Public Art Master Plan.

Overall, The Public Arts Master Plan will bring unique character to The Point, attract and inspire residents and visitors, and advance the goals outlined in the project plan.
